Our goal is to provide clear and accessible information to the community while ensuring SFO meets or exceeds all federal and state aircraft noise regulations and flights operate as quietly as possible. While SFO brings significant economic and social benefits, it also brings noise. Although the number of flights has increased, our noise footprint has decreased since 1983. We have been able to provide sound insulation to nearby homes, implement programs that encourage quieter flights, and strongly advocate for smart uses of land surrounding the Airport. Get Involved First to track noise with an Aircraft Noise Management System SFO installed its first noise monitoring system in 1975.
